She'd only started lifting weights four years ago, but has already won fitness competitions at the World Natural Powerlifting Federation (WNPF). She began powerlifting to get a one-up on her peers in the senior track and field races. And did she ever; "When the gun went off, boom, I dusted those ladies." She's only become stronger since then and is now able to lift weights over two times her own weight and can do pull-ups and push-ups with one hand. She even was awarded the 2014 Lifter of the Year award from WNPF.
Murphy is also (no personal trainers!), and works out three times a week. In an interview withUSA Today, she revealed her motto for staying active: "I never use the word 'I can't.' I would just simply say, 'I will try."
Her strength has allowed her to be a more active grandmother. "I can shovel my own snow…I can lift my grandchildren and I don't need any help carrying my groceries," she says proudly. Witness her for yourself in the video above.
