How to Tag an Article for Speedy Deletion on wikiHow

wikiHow's goal is to offer instructions on pretty much every how-to topic imaginable. That said, some new articles that get created on wikiHow may be deleted if they don't meet the guidelines in the Deletion Policy. Most such pages are nominated for deletion and voted upon by experienced community members in a week or two, but some newly created articles qualify for a speedy (i.e. immediate) deletion. This article will help you decide whether an article should be tagged for speedy deletion.

Steps

  1. Consider whether the article violates our Deletion Policy. If you're not familiar with the Deletion Policy, you should study it before tagging articles with either {{speedy}} or {{nfd}}. Only articles that violate the Deletion Policy should receive either tag.
  2. Ask yourself whether the article can wait to be deleted. If an article is mostly harmless but still violates the Deletion Policy, tag it with an appropriate {{nfd}} tag; a week later, it will be voted for or against in the NFD Guardian. If an article is a blatant violation of the Deletion Policy and is highly explicit or offensive, it may call for being removed sooner before others see it.
  3. See if the article meets the criteria for speedy deletion. If the article is comprised of explicit content, personal attacks, or profanity or is a content farm submission, it likely meets the criteria for speedy deletion.
  4. Tag the article with {{speedy}}.Be sure to follow the steps in . Adding the tag will place the article in the Speedy category, where administrators can view articles with the tag and delete them.
  5. Wait for the article to be deleted. If an admin decided that the article met the speedy deletion criteria, they will delete the article. If an admin believes the article doesn't meet the criteria, they may swap the {{speedy}} tag for an appropriate {{nfd}} tag.
    • To check whether the article has been deleted, go to the Deletion Log, enter the article title into the Title box, and clickSearch.
